Have you ever seen a team that is as pathetic as this current Rams team is? They lack any kind of identity, confidence, you name it! They had this game in the bag and once again, gave it away! Rams 20 Seahawks 23.

The Rams just don't seem to know how to play an entire game. Through the season they have put up some good "halves". But someone needs to let these guys know that you have to play for 60 minutes! not 30! They were ahead in this game 17 to 7 at halftime!

After halftime the offense couldn't do anything...once again! All they had to do was get another touchdown and they would've won! I don't get it, I just don't. Ironically enough my four year old son came up with a new name for this team, and I quote "the St. Loser Rams". I think that about sums it up.

The defense didn't look too good either. They did alright, but once again, they needed to play an entire game! During the Seahawks' last two drives, the most important drives for that defense I might add, the defensive backs looked lost! They blew coverages TWICE which allowed huge gains allowing Seattle to score both times!

I mean this is beyond frustrating! It is hard to even admit being a Rams fan these days. I'm so sick of it, I'm not sure I'm going to even see the final games. It just isn't worth it.

In an attempt to end with at least somewhat of a positive note, Steven Jackson looked pretty good. He was running people over. If he can stay healthy and we can get some people who really want to play, he can be a very good back.

December 11, 2008 - Thursday

This morning I was reading Bernie Miklasz's article in the St. Louis Today about how Coach Jim Haslett may be on his way out. In his article he mentions that Haslett does have support from some people in Rams upper management, such as Billy Devaney and Lucia Rodriguez who along with her brother Chip Rosenbloom, own the Rams. But that seems to be where it ends.

Bernie talks about how President of the Rams, John Shaw, wants Haslett gone. Why am I not surprised? This way Shaw can make it look as though Haslett is the problem and push all responsibility away from himself. I can't tell you how that irritates me. The only question I have is why have the Rams let Shaw hang around as long as they have. In case Shaw didn't notice, since 1990 the Rams have had four winning seasons. Four! in nearly twenty years! Who has holding the reigns all this time? Shaw! And he wants to blame Haslett for the teams current state?

Shaw needs to look no further than in the mirror. Between himself and Zygmundt, they have let this franchise get to the lowest point that I ever remember it being and I have been a fan for over 30 years.

Bernie talks about how the Rams are worried about ticket sells. A valid concern with this team that lacks effort all over the place. Is changing coaches going to bring people back? I don't think so! They've already tried that with Linehan. IT DIDN'T WORK! It got worse!

I am in favor of keeping Coach Haslett, that is if he is willing to stay. In my opinion, this team needs someone who already understands the organization. Starting over with a new Coach would only push a turn around backwards. I believe Haslett can create a turn around for this team if given the chance. So far he hasn't been given any chance. When he was defensive coordinator, Linehan would block his attempts at every turn to bring in people to help improve the defense. So he certainly wasn't given a chance then.

Since becoming head coach, he hasn't had the opportunity to go through a draft or anything. He needs that chance so he can bring in the people he thinks will give this team a turn around.

Owner Chip Rosenbloom, please don't listen to Shaw or Zygmundt. Those two have proven that they don't have a clue when it comes to building a winning team and then keep it winning. They got lucky for a couple years but have done nothing the rest of the time. Keep Haslett and this team will turn around. The people that need to go are Shaw and Zygmundt and so we can get someone in here that knows what they're doing!

December 10, 2008 - Wednesday

The last several years it was very frustrating watching the Rams because their defense couldn't stop anyone. As of late, the defense still has its struggles, but if the offense could move the ball down the field and put some points on the board, the defense wouldn't need to make so many stops. The offense is now what is frustrating. Rams 10 Cardinals 34

This game was full of mistakes for the Rams. To go along with it, the ever reliable Josh Brown missed a field goal at a bad time. This is exactly what I was talking about when I mentioned in previous blog posts that the Rams had to stop relying on field goals and get in the endzone.

The Rams gave the Cardinals the football in scoring position a couple of times in this game. Steven Jackson fumbled the ball twice. The first fumble ended a drive that could have been a score. The second all but gave Arizona a gift touchdown.

I have never supported benching Bulger. I felt that if the offensive line gave him time that he would do fine. Well, the last couple of weeks have changed my opinion. The line has given him time. In the game against the Dolphins he had a perfect opportunity to win the game for the Rams. Instead he made bad throws and poor decisions. This week he threw and interception right at the goal line resulting in a 99 yard interception return for a touchdown for Arizona. Two turnovers that could've easily been points for the Rams. Pretty frustrating, wouldn't you agree?

I guess the most frustrating thing, to me, is that the Rams are playing in the weakest division on the NFL and they can't win. To me this just means the Rams are one of the weakest teams in all of football. If I were Haslett, I'm not sure I'd want to return as a coach of this team.

November 30, 2008 - Sunday

Well, at least the Rams showed some competitive spirit this week. They didn't win, but they weren't blown out and best of all there wasn't a 20 or 27 deficit for them to overcome by halftime. Rams 12 Dolphins 16

Steven Jackson returned and I thought he did fairly well. It looked to me like he was going to have another 100 yard game before he was pretty much pulled out in the 4th quarter. At halftime, Jackson had 72 yards.

The defense did a pretty good job as well. They held the Dolphins to just one touchdown. The remainder of their points came from field goals. A good effort overall.

Their achelles heel is still their inability to drive down the field and score touchdowns. I suspect with Steven Jackson back that this will change soon. Until it does, if the Rams continue to rely on field goals, they will continue to lose.

November 23, 2008 - Sunday

Dejua-vu all over again. There really isn't much to write about this week. Everything that has happened the last three weeks, has happened all over again. Rams 3 Bears 27.

Once again, the Rams allowed most of the scoring in the first half. The Bears but 21 points on the board before half time. Only 3 points were allowed after that. The offense was particularly stagnent this week. Officially, the Rams had 14 total yards rushing on 19 attempts. The Rams had 204 yards of total offense. Torry Holt lead the passing game with 84 yards. Dane Looker followed with 48 yards. We won't even talk about the rushing game. The 14 yard total says it all.

Defensively it's the same 'ol story as well. The Bears ran over the Rams. Matt Forte had 135 yards all by himself. The Bears had 334 total offensive yards, most of that coming on the ground. The Rams just continue to not have an answer for stopping the running game.

It's sure painful to be a Rams fan the last few years. I've expressed enough frustration in previous posts. I won't do it again. I do want to say that something serious needs to change. We need people in the Rams' front office who know how to make a winning team. I don't know who that is necessarily, I just know that it isn't the people who are in there right now. They've plainly shown that.

November 16, 2008 - Sunday

I'm not sure that what I am blogging on here for the Rams this week is new. I mean really, could this be a bad case of deja-vu? In the worst way? Rams 16 San Francisco 35

Again, if you didn't see this game, you didn't miss much. In this game you have a small glimer of hope that the Rams could match up with the lowly 49ers who have the same record as the lowly Rams. Guess what? No chance. The 49ers cleaned the Rams' clock, once again, in every phase of the game. Once again the Rams lost control of the game before half time. At half time, the Rams were down 35-3. Can you believe that? Oh, did I fail to mention that 28 of those points came in the second quarter alone? Deja-vu!

This previous week, the Rams defense talked about how they were going to come out today and show that last week's showing against the Jets was not truely who they were. The were going to prove to the fans that they were for real. Ha! I'll avoid getting any more sarcastic. Mike Martz had his way with them. After half time, all the 49ers had to do was coast their way to victory. I hope the Rams are enjoying this. Because I know I as a fan, am not.

Marc Bulger was pathetic. He was a lot of the reason the Rams lost control of that game. He had two interceptions and one fumble in the first half alone. I know it would help if the offensive line would show up and play football, and I know Bulger is a good Quarterback when he has an offensive line that will block, but this is ridiculous. I mean this is the 49ers that all other teams in the NFL have been knocking around. Today the Rams got knocked around.

I said in an earlier blog, that this team will continue to struggle so long as they can't drive down the field and score touchdowns. They are constantly kicking fieldgoals or in today's case missing them. Until they can take the ball and drive down the field and score from the redzone, they will continue to lose. As it was today, the Rams did drive down and score a meaningless touchdown near the end of the game, but that was it. They got in the red zone a couple of times and couldn't punch it in. Until they can get 7 instead of 3 when in the red zone they will continue to lose. And this team is going to continue to lose.

I would say it is time to bench Bulger. But I don't think Green could do any better. As prone as he has been with injuries, it would just be a matter of time before he would be knocked out of the game due to the pathetic play of the offensive line.

The defense was horrendous as well. They made Shawn Hill look like Steve Young. He had a 153 QB rating at halftime. I swear if I were playing for the Rams, after the last couple of weeks, I would be embarassed, I would feel guilty for making the fans pay me for my lousy play. I'm not sure I would accept it. But these Rams don't seem to care. They'll take their money and run. Whomever gets the honor of rebuilding this team, best of luck to you. Because it doesn't look like it's going to be Coach Haslett. He has lost this team just as badly as Linehan did. I know one thing for sure. Whomever takes over better insist the front office gets cleaned out and that you get people in there who are winners and know what they're doing. Because with Zygmundt and Shaw in there the Rams will continue to lose. Those guys have shown they are losers.

November 10, 2008

There isn't really much to talk about this week. Other than to say the Rams' lack of play is getting old and discouraging. Rams 3 Jets 47.

If you didn't see or hear anything about this game, you didn't miss a thing. The Rams inept play put them down 40-0 at halftime. That's FORTY to ZERO at HALFTIME! I'm sure the only reason the final score didn't end up being 80-3 was because the Jets decided to let their bench play. Isn't that nice. The Rams can compete against the Jet's bench, but somehow they can't put a touchdown on the board.

I'm pretty much disgusted with this team. They have no heart, and somehow they still expect to collect a paycheck. If it were me, and I were playing like this, I'm not sure I would want a paycheck. I have more pride than that. But this team is lacking that...pride. They have none. I understand what Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post dispatch meant when the called all these guys losers. For that they are.

I'll not bore you with the stats for this game because it just isn't worth it. The score I quoted above says it all. We'll just hope that they decide to come any play football this week or the lowly 49ers will beat them 50-0.

November 3, 2008

The Rams' game against the Cardinals was, to say the least, disappointing. The Rams had an opportunity to make a statement and show that they're contenders. Instead, they didn't even show up. After, what I felt were some pretty good showings the last three weeks, this week it seemed as though the old "Scott Linehan" Rams were back. Rams 13 Cardinals 34

The Rams played a good first quarter. Really good. Holding the Cards inside the 5 yard line on two different occastions to no points. Bulger hit a 60 yard pass to Stanley. The Rams lead after the first quarter 7 to 0. Things looked good up to that point.

Then in the second quarter, Bulger attempted a pass to Avery that was intercepted and ran all the back for a touchdown. That's OK, those things happen. The Rams can recover. Right? Wrong! The Rams of old came back. They hung their heads, and let the Cardinals light them up for 24 points in the second quarter alone. It was such a pathetic effort. I don't understand where their pride was. They pretty much gave up after that interception return for a TD. It was ugly.

I'm not going to talk much about the rest of that game. The second quarter says it all. Here are my concerns. Even in the last three games, the Rams can't seem to put together anything offensively. They cannot drive the ball down the field and put it in the endzone. Most of their points come from big plays, which is fine, but at some point you have to work hard and drive the ball down the field. This isn't happening. Until the Rams can do that, they will get lucky and win a couple of games, but they won't be a good team and win consistently. Driving the ball down the field and putting it in the endzone keeps your defense off the field and more importantly keeps the other teams offense off the field. It's just plain logic that if the other teams offense is not on the field it is difficult to for them to score. Especially with an offense like Arizona has, you have to keep them off the field. You do that with long drawn out drives, marching down the field with your offense and scoring...touchdowns.

This hasn't been happening in St. Louis. They've scored, but for the most part using the big play. Most the time when they drive down the field they stall out and either have to punt, or kick a field goal. Field goals aren't going to consistently win games for you. You need 7 to win games when you drive down the field. Until the Rams do this, they won't win consistently.

October 27, 2008

Uh Oh, the Rams lost again. So, do we go back to our "give up on the Rams" attitude? Nahh! The Rams played the Patriots tough! No, they didn't win the game, but they were in it the whole way! They blew a chance to win it right at the end. Rams 16 Patriots 32

There were a lot of brite spots in this game. Consider this. The Rams hung in with the Patriots even though Steve Jackson wasn't playing. If he were playing the Rams probably would've won. More on that later. Neither Adam Carriker or Leonard Little played either. Yet, Chris Long came up with two sacks! What does all this say? The future looks pretty good.

On kickoff, Daunte Hall took the ball from the Rams' one yard line and ran it back all the way to the Patriot's 24 for a return of 75 yards. Pretty awesome, huh? That is the way you start a game. Except. There was a holding penalty that brought the ball all the way back to the Rams' 42 yard line. That was a sweet return anyhow. The Rams then drove down to the Patriot's 2 yard line and couldn't punch it in. Josh Brown kicked a 20 yard field goal to give the Rams the lead.

The Patriot's then took the ball from their own two yard line and drove down and scored a touchdown on a Green 2 yard run to take the lead. The second quarter ends with the Rams trailing 7 to 3.

The Rams begin their next drive at their own 12 yard line. They drive to their own 31 yard line, then on 2nd and 6, Donnie Avery breaks a deep post and Marc Bulger hits him in stride. Avery puts a move on the safety and sprints to the endzone. This was a sweet play. Probably the play of the day, certainly for the Rams. That was a 69 yard play. The longest play of Avery's short career. Let's hope there is many more where that came from (so long as he remains a Rams ;)).

The Patriot's next drive ended with a Punt from the NE 39 yard line. It landed in the endzone for a touchback.

The Rams' next possession also end with a punt. It also landed in the endzone for a touchback.

The Patriot's take their next drive and get down to the Rams' 12 yard line the kick a field goal which ties the game.

The Rams' next drive ends with a punt. Jones punts the ball 52 yard to NE 45 yardline.

The Patriot's take the ball and drive to the Rams' 9 yard line then kick a field goal and take the lead again. The half ends with the score Rams 10 Patriots 13.

Rams start the second half with an onside kick and recover it at the Rams' 41 yard line! They take the ball and drive to They drive to the 47 yard line and the drive stalls. They punt. The ball goes to the Patriot's 10 where a fair catch was called.

The Patriots drive to their own 34. Then as Cassel passes the ball from Moss, Atogwe intercepts it at the Rams 44, he returns it to the Patriot's 43 yard line. Rams' ball! YES!

The Rams take the ball and drive to the Patriot's 26 yard line. On this drive, Torry Holt catches a ball for 11 yards. This gives Holt 12,153 yards passing Charlie Joiner for 15th all-time. Let's hear it for Holt!! Way to go! Josh Brown then kicks a 44 yard field goal to tie the score at 13.

To keep this blog from becoming too boring, I will skip to the drives which produce. This way I won't put you to sleep

Fakhir Brown (welcome back Fakhir, we're glad you're here!) picks off Cassel and returns it 16 yards giving the Rams the ball at the Rams' 42 yard line.

The Rams stop the Patriots when they go for it on 4th and 1.

Bulger hits Avery for a sweet 44 yard pass play that Avery made a sweet adjustment to amek. The Rams then drive to the Patriot's seven kick a field goal. The third quarter then ends with the Rams leading 16 to 13.

The Patriot's kick a field goal and tie the score at 16

The Patriot's then score a touchdown after driving from the NE 47 on a 15 yard run from Faulk (not Marshall ;)).

The Rams then have a chance to punch it in. They are driving into the Patriot's territory at the 38 yard line. Bulger then throws a pass intended for Burton. He was triple covered and it was picked off by O'Neal ending any chances for the Rams to win.

In summary, the Rams played a good 5-2 team down to the wire and were in it the whole way. The Rams have turned the corner and will be a team to recon with. My hats off to Chip Rosenbloom for making a tough coaching change which has put this team back on course. GO RAMS!

October 20, 2008

What an exciting last couple of weeks, wouldn't you agree? The minute we thought we should give up on this season and wait for next year, the Rams surprise us and beat two, credible, teams! Yesterday the Rams showed Dallas how to play football! Rams 34 Dallas 14 Who would've guessed?

The Rams did let the Cowboys drive 74 yards to score the games first touchdown. But after that, it was all Rams. The Rams put the next 34 points on the board. Donnie Avery started out the scoring by beating Dallas cornerback Anthony Henry deep and Marc Bulger hit him for a 42 yard touchdown pass. Torry Holt mentioned they found a "vulnerability in Dallas' 'Cover 4'" (--St. Louis Post Dispatch). Whatever vulnerability they found, they exploited. Way to go!

Steven Jackson had a pro bowl type day. Jackson ran for 160 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns. Yup, you read that right, just rushing. That doesn't include the pass yards he had, which he didn't have many. Why? Because they didn't have to pass. Bulger only threw the ball 19 times. That was the fewest amount of passes he's had in entire career. There was only the need to pass once in a while to keep the defense honest. Beyond that they just gave the ball to Steven Jackson and he did the rest.

My hat goes off to coach Jim Haslett. He has shown he can inspire and energize a team that just wasn't playing with any heart or urgency this whole season until he took over. Coach Saunders' offense is gelling. It wouldn't be so without the confidence Coach Haslett has instilled in his players.

This folks is nothing less than a miracle. Just these two wins alone are miracles. These wins have come against quality teams. Sure Dallas has their problems, but they were picked by most to represent the NFC in the Superbowl. Washington was no slouch either. This team is showing major signs of life and boy is it fun to watch.

The weirdest thing to me at this point is that it is actually conceivable that the Rams make the playoffs. Imagine that! Early September we were all wondering who the Rams were going to take with the #1 pick during the next NFL draft. Now, we’re talking playoffs! Nothing short of a miracle.

Granted, there is a long season ahead and the Rams have a lot of tough teams left on the schedule. But they’ve shown they can play the tough teams and win. Arizona is showing some real signs of life and the Rams will have to out duel them for the NFC West. A task I believe they can accomplish with the way they’ve been playing. Keep it up! GO RAMS!

October 13, 2008

The only thing I can say about the Rams' win yesterday is...WOW! After everything that has happened to this team in the last four weeks, I had to go along with the so-called experts that the Rams didn't have a chance in this game. Boy was I wrong! Boy were the so-called experts wrong! We were wrong! I am more than happy to admit it! Way to go Rams! Rams 19 Redskins 17.

After Steven Jackson fumbled the football, deep in Rams territory on their opening drive, allowing the Redskins an easy 7, I had all but given up on them, but the Rams didn't do something after that though that I had seen them do this whole year. Hang their heads. I was surprised. They seemed to accept the fact that they had made a mistake and that they would just have to overcome that mistake. After seeing this, I thought wow, maybe there is hope.

The Rams took the ball from their own 38 after Washington punted and then drove down the field and kicked a field goal making the score Rams 3 Redskins 7.

Washington then took the ball from the Rams' 18 and started driving down the field. Then something that didn't happen all year happened; Washington fumbled and the Rams recovered it at the Rams' 39 yard line. Atogwe recovered the ball. Quarter one then ended.

In the second quarter, after ther fumble recovery, the Rams took the ball and marched down the field. However, at about mid-field, the drive stalls and the Rams punt. Washington takes the ball as the 20. They march down the field and get to the Rams' 34 then they fumble again! Chris Long recovers the fumble stopping the Redskins' drive but more importantly giving the ball back to the offense.

The Rams take the ball and drive to Washington's 43 then the drive stalls again and they have to punt. Washington takes the ball at their 14 and drive to their 48 yard line and then punt. The Rams get the ball at their 22 and then have a quick four and out punting the ball to Washington's 33. The Redskins then take the ball and drive all the way down the field and into scoring position at the Rams' 16 yard line. Then the strangest play I've ever seen happens. Campbell drops back to pass, the pass is tipped and Kendall (Redskins offensive lineman) catches the ball and begins to advance it. Pisa Tinoisamoa then puts his helmet right on the ball knocking it out. Atogwe picks up the ball and returns it 75 yards for a touchdown. Yee Haw! That's what I'm taking about! Rams end the second quarter with the lead. Rams 10 Redskins 7.

In the third quarter, the Rams get the opening kickoff. The ball is kicked to Dante Hall at the 10 yard line. Hall then returns the ball 32 yards to the Rams' 42 yard line. The Rams take the ball and get all the way to Washington's 7 but can't punch it in. They kick a field goal.

The Rams then hold Washington and force them to punt. The Rams then do a quick four and out themselves. The Rams hold Washington to a four and out. On the ensuing punt, Washinton's punter Brooks has the ball shank off his foot and go out of bounds at the 33 yard line giving the Rams excellent field position. The Rams score a field goal making the score Rams 16 Redskins 7. That was the score after three quarters.

The Redskins then take the ball after the kick off from their own 22 and march down and score their own field goal. Rams 16 Redskins 10. The Rams then have to punt after a short series.

The Redskins then take the ball and drive and way down the field and score on a 2 yard run by Clinton Portis. That gave the Redskins the lead. At this point I about wrote them off again. The Rams had had plenty of opportunity to put the ball in the endzone and all they've done is kick fieldgoals. The only touchdown coming on a defensive play.

But the Rams drove down the field. Avery made a couple of great catches to put the Rams in fieldgoal range. The Rams were in great position at the Washington 17 yardline when Richie Incognito did something stuiped drawing an unsportsmanlike penalty pushing the Rams back to the Washington 32 yardline. I was thinking Oh great. Get yourself in position to win the give it away. That is a long fieldgoal try. The Rams ran the clock down. Then Josh Brown kicked a 49 yard field goal to give the Rams victory. Rams 19 Redskins 17.

It wasn't by any means the perfect game. They have a lot to improve on. The Redskins made a lot of mistakes that allowed the Rams to stay in the game. But we'll take the win. Way to go Rams!

October 10, 2008

Things have been pretty quiet along the Rams front since the firing of Coach Scott Linehan.  Newly hired Coach Jim Haslett did announce that he would put Marc Bulger back in at starting Quarterback.  A move I concur with.  In my opinion he never should’ve been benched.  The problem with this team is not the Quarterback, but the offensive line.  Until those guys learn how to keep people out, there isn’t a Quarterback in the league that would last.

It has also been said that Coach Haslett wants Fakhir Brown back.  Surprise surprise.  They should’ve never let him go.  Fakhir has been the best Cornerback the team has.  He’s made some mistakes, but there isn’t anyone on this team who hasn’t.  Not surprising, Fakhir doesn’t really want to come back.  I mean would you if let go under those circumstances?  The Rams are going to have to pay up to get him back, and they should, because they need him.

I’d like to take a minute a wish Dane Looker the best.  I guess during a Cat scan that was setup courtesy of a hard hit that gave him a concussion in the game against Buffalo, the Cat scan shows an abnormality in Dane’s brain.  This abnormality could possibly be an aneurism, which as many of you know I’m sure, is life threatening.  This has nothing to do with the concussion, but was just found at the same time he was being treated for the concussion.  So Dane, you’re in our prayers and we wish you the best.  I know what it is like to go through test after test and not know for sure what is going on.  It makes life hard there for a while.

I’m encouraged by Steven Jackson’s want for more!  Believe it or not, he is the #2 back in the league in yards from scrimmage.  He isn’t happy with that.  I say “Kudos”!  He wants to be #1.  He says he sees a lot of places he needs to improve.  Coach Jim Haslett says he wants to get the ball in hands of his playmakers more.  If that is indeed the case, Steven Jackson shouldn’t have any problem getting to the #1 spot in yards from scrimmage.  Hears Rooting!  GO RAMS!

Derek Stanley was promoted from the practice squad. I think this is great! Somtimes those on the outside have more to prove than those who are already playing. I'm sure he'll be used mostly on special teams returning kicks plus fill in for Dane Looker.

The Rams go up and play big bad Washington. Washington is a team that has made few mistakes. Their defense, though good, is not perfect. If the Rams start to click on offense, the Rams may just surprise Washington. Here's hoping!

September 29, 2008

Sunday's game against the Bills proved to be a continuation to the frustration going on this whole season. The Rams played the Bills tough, well for a half anyway. Going in to half time, the Rams actually lead 14-6. Things were looking promising...again. Then as has happened in every game this season so far, the Rams went to sleep, the Bills came back and buried the Rams 31-14.

This is a team with no vision. If they had had vision, the offense would've put some more points on the board after half time. The defense wouldn't have allowed the Bills to get to the endzone like they did in the first half.

At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Bills' Jabari Greer's interception return for a touchdown seemed to deflate the Rams into the "Oh well, we tried" mode. After that, the Bills scored two more times, a touchdown and
a field goal.

What were the positives about this game? Well, believe it or not, there are a few positives. First, Donnie Avery scored his first touchdown on a pitch from Trent Green. Steven Jackson had a 110 yards rushing with on touchdown, plus 78 yards receiving. All in all a pretty good day for Steven Jackson.

So what was the result of this loss? It cost Scott Linehan his job. As much as I feel for him, I agree with the change. Something has to happen. My biggest problem is that he should not shoulder the blame all by himself. Where is Jay Zygmundt sharing responsibility? After all he is the one who has brough in so many players who just don't have the guts to dig deep to win a game. Why isn't he at least apologizing for getting this organization into the mess it is currently in? Why is he letting Linehan take blame for this organizations latest failures when he has more to do with these failures than Linehan does?

These questions we may never know the answers to. I wish Scott Linehan the best, I know sooner or later he'll get picked up by another NFL team and he'll do well. Under the current circumstances, with Zygmundt running the show, I don't know that anyone could have succeeded. This organization has been blowing it on too many different levels for too long to allow any coach success.

Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett was named Head Coach (I noticed that he was not announced as the iterim Head Coach). Jim is tough, demands the best from his players, so we'll hope for the best. For him to succeed however, the front office must give him the tools that will allow him to succeed. So Zygmundt as long as you have to be here, wake up, get the guys in here that will help this team win.

September 26, 2008

The more I learn about Jason Craft, the more I think "What the he!! are the Rams doing"? Fakhir Brown was not a terrible cornerback. In fact, he was at least "in the middle of the pack" compared to the rest of the league.

On the other hand, Jason Craft, hasn't even started since he's been in New Orleans. He has been mostly a special teams player. HE HASN'T EVEN STARTED! This is just as bad of a deal as the Rams trading away Issac Bruce to rely on Drew Bennett!

It seems as though we just keep getting worse and worse and worse. Someone needs to wake up over in the Rams front office, someone like Chip Rosenbloom. These types of decisions can't keep happening. They just can't! They are made over and over. What is the result? A franchise that since 1990 has had just four winning seasons, is currently the biggest joke within the NFL, and is just looking to become a bigger joke!

Zygmundt and Linehan need to be booted out! Together their personel decisions are pathetic! I realize I haven't even given Jason Craft a chance yet and this is nothing personal against him. All you need is the Rams' track record to see that this is NOT WORKING! It is obvious that nobody on the team likes Linehan and this might be the reason they play without heart week after week.

Bulger has been benched! He isn't the problem, the offensive line is the problem. Do you see anything being done with them? No! Nothing! If the offensive line were doing their job, Steven Jackson would be the top back in the league and the offensive line would take pride in that. Currently there is no pride on this team, not anywhere. This is the problem.

I'm totally expecting the Bills to go after Jason Craft this week and I'm expecting him to get burned over and over, kinda like Tye Hill has been. So expect another loss. Then someone wake up and make the changes necessary, get people in who know what their doing, and get this franchise back to a point where it can win!

In an attempt to shake things up and get the Rams players motivated, Coach Scott Linehan has benched Marc Bulger. Further, they have released Fakhir Brown and replaced him with Jason Craft who was recently released by the New Orlean Saints.

Lord knows the Rams need help at Cornerback something fierce, so I see and support this move. I don't know a lot about Jason Craft's NFL experience. But I'm looking forward to learn what he's made of come Sunday. Here's what I do know. He was drafted in the fifth round by Jacksonville in the 1999 draft. He played his college ball at Colorado State. He attended East High School in Denver where he lettered in football, basketball and track. The Jaguars traded him to the Saints for a fifth round draft pick in April of 2004. His experience with the Saints has been mostly special teams. He stands 5-10 and is 187 lbs. Hopefully this is an upgrade and not a step backwards like so many of the Rams' signings have been of late.

I'm a little puzzled by the move at Quarterback. I am a believer that the offensive line wins football games for you. I don't think that changing the Quarterback to Trent Green will help the QB position perform better. Changes need to be made on the Offensive Line. They need to get guys in there who want to play and block and do what you're supposed to do on the offensive line so that the QB can have time, stay vertical, and make plays. I don't think this change is going to affect much against the Bills this week. We shall see.

Things just seem to get worse and worse for the Rams. In Seattle today, at half-time, the score was Rams 6, Seahawks 27. The Rams were out gained in total yards by 267 yards to 63 yards, at half-time. By the end of the game, total yards were 407 yards to 240 yards. Rams 13, Seahawks 37. The Rams couldn't even do in the whole game what Seattle did in the first half.

Steven Jackson had a whopping 66 yards on 23 carries. I'll let you do the math, but it doesn't take a math whiz to see that the yards per carry is pathetic. Do I blame Steven Jackson? Not even. It takes an offensive line to have a good running back, and this offensive line...sucks!

Marc Bulger was 18 for 31 on passing with 1 pick and 1 touchdown. Not a completely terrible performance, but not near good enough to even come close to winning games. Again, is this Marc Bulger's fault? Not even. Once again, it takes an offensive line to win football games...and for whatever reason this offensive line, of late, never shows up to play.

I was glad to see the Rams punch it in the endzone with Dane Looker. Much more needs to happen. I don't see things changing much with the current administration.

Chip Rosenburg needs to make a change. A coaching change is needed, but it can't just stop there. Guys in the front office need to be held accountable and make changes there as well. Otherwise this is just going to continue. Mr. Rosenburg said he would make a change if the Rams didn't start to win. Well, they haven't. They haven't even come close. They play with no sense of urgency or desire to win. It's discouraging as a Rams fan to see this continue week after week, year after year. Mr. Rosenburg the time for change is now. Things couldn't possibly get any worse than they already are.

I started out with the Rams vs. Giants game being somewhat pleased with what I saw. The Rams were playing the world champs tough. The defense was holding there own against a pretty good offense. That is, until the 4th quarter. Then they plain 'ol gave up. Rams 13 Giants 41.

At the start of the 4th quarter it was Rams 13, Giants 20. A winnable game for the Rams, unless of course you just completely give up. Which they did. It has been said in the past that when a team begins lose, the players begin to believe they can't win, that they will lose. I believe that the Rams have reached this point. I believe the players don't believe they can win, and they showed it on Sunday.

In all fairness there are some players who do believe they can win, Torry Holt, Steven Jackson, but I'm not sure there are many others. Scott Linehan must find a way to get these guys to believe in themselves and the system they play in. If he can't, this season is done, mark the Rams for the first round draft pick for next year. Do I believe they will be winless? No, but I don't see them having more than 2-3 wins at most. In other words, a repeat of last year.

It's depressing I know. But I feel like I've been a true fan. I've stuck with them through thick and thin since the late 1970's. I'm tired of seeing this team lose, year after year. Something has to change. It has to.

I noticed that Chip Rosenbloom, now owner of the Rams, is talking tough. I'd like to see him act on it. Firing the head coach may make a few fans happy but it won't solve the problem. The problem is in the front office where no one has been held accountable for years. That is what has to change. Get someone in there who knows what they're doing and actually cares. I'm not seeing that right now.

Watching the coaches respond to Philadelphia's drubbing of the Rams on Sunday was, to say the least, interesting. You have the New York Giants coming to St. Louis on Sunday. These guys, by the way, are the world champs. The coaching staff thinks they can have the team ready to compete by Sunday.

Forgive me if I don't buy it. For eighteen years, minus four, the Rams have, well... stunk. This year seems to be no different. In the game against Philadelphia, they played with absolutely no heart. I got the distinct impression that they didn't care because they would get paid anyway.

It is complimentary that the coaches want to keep their heads high, use a good attitude to get this team going. I am very much hoping that they do! But until I see it, I won't believe it! They have not shown any reason for me to buy into this... not one!

Philadelphia man-handled the Rams in every phase of the game last Sunday. I expect New York to do the same. I will be surprised if New York doesn't have over 400 total yards agaisnt the Rams this week just like Philadelphia.

Here's hoping I eat crow, but I'm not counting on it.

Boy, I sure wasn't expecting what happened in the Season opener for the Rams today. All I can say is the Rams didn't even show up. I'm not sure they ever even got away from St. Louis. Philadelphia 38, Rams 3. Not much more you can say.

I am, by nature, a very optimistic person. I have been this way with the Rams for many years. I must admit my optimisim is fading. I've mentioned before that the Rams have had four winning seasons since 1990. FOUR! Most teams have a couple of down years then bounce back. Not the Rams. Today they showed that they have not made any progress from last years 3-13 disaster. The hiring of Al Saunders has done nothing.

The Rams were pathetic on offense and defense. The one bright spot was the punter and he is someone you don't want to have to use. Steven Jackson didn't do anything. Bulger, due to lack of protection, looked horrid.

Most people will be calling Coach Scott Linehan's head. Not me. The Rams have been through coach after coach (since 1990) and with the exception of Vermeil and Martz, they've all been duds. At some point the people who hire those coaches and make those decisions need to be held responsible. I point my finger at Rams President John Shaw and President of Football operations Jay Zygmunt.

How long can these guys get away with making bad decisions and hiring coaches that just don't cut it, time after time. The Rams are the joke of the NFL and it appears like for good reason. As long as this front office is left the way it is, the Rams will hang around the bottom. They haven't got a clue.

I started off with the hopes of coming out of the first eight games of this season at least at .500 4-4. Now I don't see them coming out of the first eight games with any wins. They will probably repeat last years 0-8 start. I just hope they don't pull what Miami did last year.
